HARRISBURG, PA — Today, Pennsylvania House Republicans voted to approve SB 613 that would immediately re-open non-essential businesses in defiance of Governor Wolf, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and federal authorities. Even more galling, House Republicans denied votes on hazard pay, workers compensation, and PPEs for affected frontline workers.
“These actions defy logic, common sense, and all guidance coming from the medical community and federal and state health officials,” said House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody. “Allowing non-essential businesses to re-open without protecting workers is a cynical and heartless move.”
“Democrats stand united in our support for the brave women and men serving their communities across the commonwealth,” said Representative Leanne Krueger, HDCC chair. “When given the opportunity to stand with workers today, House Republicans turned their backs. During a national crisis with over 25,000 COVID-19 cases in Pennsylvania alone, House Republicans left these workers to fend for themselves. Shame on them.”
